Greenwells and Burke's Peerage
« on: Wednesday 25 June 14 04:53 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to look up volume 2 and page 1654 of Mosley, Charles, editor. Burke's Peerage, Baronetage & Knightage, 107th edition, 3 volumes. Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.: Burke's Peerage (Genealogical Books) Ltd, 2003.

On this page it should have details of various Greenwells of Wolsingham. Any useful information pre 1600 would be much appreciated.

In addition, does anyone have any other information about various Greenwells in Wolsingham? The names of interest are Anthony, Peter, Lawrence and John, all before 1600.

Hi Albion1

I have access to the 106th edition (published 1999), which gives the following information under "Lineage":

John de Grenwell, of Park Yate, Wolsingham, Co Durham; m Catherine - and d by 13 Jan 1391 leaving:

John de Grenwell, of Park Yate; d by 6 Nov 1419, leaving:

John Grenwell, of Grenwell, Wolsingham; had a charter of lands there 1404; m Joan - and d by 21 Oct 1461, leaving:

Lawrence Grenwell, of Grenwell; d by 21 Feb 1499, leaving:

John Grenwell, of Grenwell; m Agnes and d by 10 April 1543, leaving:

Peter Grenwell, of Grenwell; had a yst s:

Peter Grenwell, of Wolsingham; d shortly after 28 June 1573, leaving a 4th s:

Anthony Grenwell, of Corbridge, Northumberland; had:

Ralph Greenwell, of Corbridge; m Isabel, dau of Ralph Fenwick, of Dilston,  Northumberland, and had a 3rd s:

William Greenwell, of Corbridge; m Mabel, dau of Nicholas Leadbitter, of Wardon,  Northumberland, and d between 26th Oct and 30 Nov 1688, leaving, with other issue:

Nicholas Greenwell.

Punctuation as in original.  As we're now well into the 1600's I shall stop there, but it goes right up to the present Baronet.

Hope this helps
