Exactly my thought's. I've been sat searching telegraph / electricity poles (yes, I know that's sad!) ;D but it just feels American / Canadian.

The pole looks like the kind you see in American towns years ago.

My initial thoughts were Canada too...I was in Newfoundland 12 years ago where my Father was born...to meet up with cousins and this photo reminded me of old photos that we were looking at of Family.

When I enlarged the photo I was curious about the XXX's on top of some sort of structure in the background (situated near his stomach).  It's not something I've seen before and I have no idea what it could be. 

There's a tall post with cross bars to the left of that structure and the style reminds me of the old fashioned wire carrying posts, which were probably sited all over the then "modern" world.

I'm presuming those are roses in the garden border.

Agree with those who say this does not look English.

I have seen weatherboard houses in England, but there is something about this house which is different, possibly due to very wide boards - (are they boards or shingles?) and the fact that the house is raised off the ground a little (perhaps of a height for a couple of steps up to the door?). I know some English houses are raised off the ground too, but this looks different somehow.

I also think the windows look different from English ones (perhaps due to the frame of the windows and the sashes). Also the top floor being slightly recessed with the 'canopy' along the roofline of the lower floor does not look English.

Not very well explained I'm sorry but it just 'feels' different I think.

Location in a dry looking field in the sun may influence my thoughts.  ;)

It is a shame that we can't see the front of the house which may give more clues. I think a verandah might feature. :)

The ground does look dry and sandy as if it could be close to the coast maybe.

I think I see storm windows on the house, and a door to go down into a cellar.  Reminds me of New England, maybe elsewhere in America/Canada, but not a style I've seen in the UK.

Having lived in Canada my whole life, I would say this is a typical Canadian house built completely of wood with cedar roof and wall shingles. The house looks to be early 1900's vintage built.The large trees do not have much foliage on them so think it probably is spring time since the grass seems dry and brown after the winter. There are evergreen trees in the background. As to location, it could be anywhere although I would rule out the B.C. coast since the grass is looking rather dry.
