Is this the marriage you found?:
Marriage Sept 1917
Coops Maud
Woods Joseph WH
Aston
6D 684
Presumably you have purchased this certificate?

As you are having trouble reading his father's occupation post the occupation here we can take a look at it for you.

Ages on death certificates are often slightly out, so the age at marriage is likely to me more accurate.

Are you specifically looking for Joseph's birth? I can see quite a lot of Joseph Woods born around 1894 ....

The marriage is on line - Snippet attached - His father's occupation does look like a fisherman. Edit - The occupation does make you think that he came from a coastal area

Yes, Fisherman I think.  :)

I note you said you can't find Joseph on any census. Unless you know where he comes from or can find him at home with father it could be difficult to track him down. He married in Warwickshire but could have come from anywhere. His father's occupation of Fisherman makes me wonder if he came from a coastal area.  :-\

I will see if I can spot him.

(oops, sorry Kay, I didn't read your reply properly but see that we are thinking along similar lines)

Kay,to  save me from looking it up - can you tell me what was Joseph's occupation please?  :)

Just as a rough guide, I checked here for the Woods surname:
http://gbnames.publicprofiler.org/Surnames.aspx
and the name is heavily represented in Norfolk/Suffolk and Lancashire.

Sorry, I'm not having any luck, as yet, finding Joseph in 1911 or 1901 ...

If the death age is more accurate there is Joseph H Woods b 1898 in Stonehouse, Devon with father Charles H Woods.

However in 1901 his father is listed as Charley/ Charles Woods Coal Porter rather than a fisherman. Later he listed as working in the docks.  No birth record of Joseph that I could find
