You don't need to go to Dublin to get Certs... I was born in Dublin, now living Ck on Shannon and was recently asked to produce long/full version of my Birth Cert. I told person I hadn't time to go to Dublin and was told I only needed to go to local office to get it. I had page/volume number and got Cert immediately.
But you are alive, I've got family Certs with only name and date in the local office but can you do that for historic Certs?
I can never find that info online but I'd think I heard or read there is a date limit.
Only way to be sure is to ask I guess.

Well they have them anyway because my father's name wasn't in great handwriting, when I gave my father's D.O.B in Carlow office (even though born Kilkenny) and his page/volume number they were able to look that up.

Historic records can be very basic anyway. I have some which only give date of death and location, no parent named.
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Off line since 13.05 today. Hope it's just a service issue, not a change in availability.

Hi Sinann,

I noticed that earlier. Civil records weren't showing up as an option on the bar but I entered the details and I could choose civil records.
When I tried a few minutes later I got an error message!  I hope it is just an adjustment to the site.

Hi all, I hear reports that the Data Protection Commissioner has raised issues about the ease which "Mothers Maiden Names" and "Dates of Birth" of living people can be accessed en mass on the new online database, in the context of these being widely used as security questions by banking and credit card companies. If this is the case sounds like a major relook is under way and not just a temporary technical glitch.

Definitely will take time then

However for quite a while I've felt it's the Banks should review their security questions, as those two well used questions are so easy to find out about people.

My bank uses a third question that I insisted on as I told them my family tree was on line and easily accessible to many

I hope they reopen the marriages and deaths while we're waiting.

I was surprised it went all the way to 2013 but I assumed they knew what they were doing, sadly it seems they didn't.
