My apologies, the people I am researching are in fact already dead. I simply made a mistake with the year and it should have been 1860! Thank you for the heads up with GRONI. AA

In Ireland, a c1860 birth will have missed Civil Registration and you will therefore be reliant on church records.

Do you have any further information on the family that you can share?

As you already seem to know his parents names (including mum's maiden name) and his birth townland, where did you get this info?

Unfortunately, no obvious McAleese head of household listed in Birch Hill at time of Griffiths Valuation in mid 1800s:

Hi scotmum,
Thomas McAleese immigrated to Australia. He is my Great Grandfather.
I have his death certificate, that's where I got his parents names and his Mums maiden name from.
On his death certificate it says he was born in Antrim.
As for Birchill that info came from someone else's family tree.
I have no proof myself that he was born in Birchill.
Thanks for your time. AA

" ... Annie born (Hert) ... "

Are there any legibility issues around this or is it an unequivocal interpretation from the death certificate that her maiden surname is Hert?  Hert is really not common at all in Ireland, nor Hurt, though Hart is a good bit more common.  But even for Hart, nothing is jumping out.

If you hadn't provided Annie's surname, a candidate would have been a Robert McAleese who married Anne Loughan in Antrim High Street Presbyterian Church in 1857 (I think they had a son George, couldn't see a Thomas, but online church records are patchy). But it's a great leap from Hert to Loughan!

As informant's information on death certificates is notoriously unreliable, there's a bit of me thinking that you might want to try and corroborate Annie's previous and/or birth surnames, I could be wrong but I'm just a little bit suspicious of the "Hert".

Hi gaffy, I've had another look at the death certificate and Hert is the maiden name for Annie mcAleese.
But info on certificates can be unreliable as I have found out.
Maybe she wasn't born in Ireland?
I will do some more digging, thanks for your help.AA
