Have you considered the John Cavanagh death in Bootle area in 1905 (albeit age appears out by about 10yrs)?

I think scotsmum´s suggestion is definitely worth a closer look since Jane´s death was also registered in Bootle.

Findmypast has a burial at Millom Holy Trinity Furness 8 Nov 1905. Name and age match the record previously identified in Bootle. Perhaps he died in Bootle but then was taken back to Millom for burial.

Millom was in Bootle registration district http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/bootle1.html

Despite how FindMyPast may classify things, Millom was never in Furness (part of Lancs) but in Cumberland.  Both became parts of Cumbria in 1974. :(
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Perhaps this is where "Furness" came from Geoff - Holy Trinity Church, Millom, is located in the village of Millom, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Furness, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle.

Moving away from the discussions of registration district and diocese, the point of my post was that there is actually a burial record in Millom, not just a death registration at GRO.

The burial records for Holy Trinity are held at Barrow.

Just a thought and on the off chance there may be a headstone  - You could join Find A Grave (free) and create a memorial page for John Kavanagh at Holy Trinity Cemetery and then request a photograph - its explained here -  How to submit a photo request.  Hope this helps.

As Scotmum said the age at death (47 years)  of John Kavanagh in 1905 is out by 10 years so you could be reluctant to spend out the money on the death certificate.
