Further to above; Elizabeth Sarah may have had a brother George John b1829. He seems to have gone to Hackney and married Catharine Helen Allardce from Scotland. (Dec qr 1858) She died young, 1867 aged 35, but can't find a confirmed death for him as all seem to be the wrong age.

Just got the 1858 marriage cert for George John Humphreys who we believe to be Elizabeth Sarah's brother. Gives father, George Humphreys as Naval Officer, deceased. Found a Lt George Humphreys RN employed in the coastguard service who died in 1834 at Milton next Sittingbourne Kent.

Have you seen the actual parish register entry for Elizabeth Sarah and possible siblings baptisms they probably give George's occupation.

Lieut. George Humphreys was nominated to the Coastguard on 18 April 1831 from the Coast Blockade Service, with a posting to Milton CGS (ADM 175/6 pdf 55).

If you believe he is your ancestor it would be worth ordering his Lieutenant's Passing Certificate from the National Archives, Cat.Ref: ADM 107/44 pages 193-194, which includes details of his birth, and ADM 6/110 page 104.  He passed his Lieut's Board in 1812, but was not appointed until 1815.

Rosie, Martin; Thank you for your postings. Haven't been on the site for a while but someone has told me that this is the wrong George Humphreys. So research continues. Regards & thanks, TCS.

PS: I am going to try to see the original baptisms at Lewes some time. Might get a cross reference there. TCS.
