Also thanks for the advice re FTM. I gave up with my FTM the night before last because it was doing very strange things indeed and then I had trouble closing it down.

Just hoping now that all will be well in due course.

I still wonder if our account details are safe though as I simply don't understand why anyone would do this unless they stood to gain something from the hacking......or whatever the correct description of all this  disruption is.

Accounts are okay as is all our data & trees.  These type of attacks are simply about "taking down" a site they have a some grudge against or, more typically for smaller sites, for attempted extortion from the site's owners.

These attacks are only possible due to the large numbers of PCs in the world without any proper virus software or firewall installed and working  :-\

There is a work around - if you click on a member you've sent a message to in the past and inbox option is there and that let me in
