did he own the farm
« on: Saturday 14 June 14 10:02 BST (UK) »
i have found a few notices in a newspaper on line it reads
19 dec 1818 for sale the farm in pittington occnples [ i asume this meens occupied ] william morrison
then another advert
BULMOXT , ABAH , Ddurham occupied the farm pit - lington occupied william morrison may like wise enter upon may day next
does this meen that wiliam m0rrison owned the land and was selling it or just working it for someone else , there are more adverts for sale,s on this farm with a years span upto 1 may 1835
my william morrison when he got married in 1810 was a husbandman on marriage cerificate and again it stated on the baptism of his son in 1811 , but in 1851 censu he was agracultural labourer , was he the owner of this farm or not and where was it in pittington what was its name and how could i find out more

My understanding of husbandman is a tenant farmer, so I would assume at that stage he is renting and running the farm. I would think that as an ag. lab he was a farm worker and not the main farmer.

Because of the limits of OCR scanning on http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk  you would need to see the actual articles to know what was meant, your extracts can be seen at  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0147n/

Do you have a subscription to Find My Past or are you near to a library which offers internet access to it?  The Durham County Advertiser is listed in their newspaper holdings and you will be able to view the whole article.
