Manchester Baptisms
« on: Wednesday 11 June 14 18:10 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone advise where I can find free (if possible) on line baptism records for the Manchester Area.  I have searched Ancestry and FamilySearch as I am looking for two missing babies born between 1896 and 1911.  I only found out there were 3 missing from the family when I found the 1911 Census and there were 9 children born alive but I only had 6.  I have since found another so only 2 missing now with the surname of Hewitt.  Parents James and Eliza

Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated

Thanks

Chrissy

I would suggest you look at freebmd.org.uk and search births and deaths (in infancy) for Hewitt in Manchester between 1901 and 1911. My guess would be that you should consider Charles Arthur, Ada, Edward, Lily, Florrie, Cyril and Sydney as your starting point then see who you can eliminate.
Crackett, Cracket, Webb, Turner, Henderson, Murray, Carr, Stavers, Thornton, Oliver, Davis, Hall, Anderson, Atknin, Austin, Bainbridge, Beach, Bullman, Charlton, Chator, Corbett, Corsall, Coxon, Davis, Dinnin, Dow, Farside, Fitton, Garden, Geddes, Gowans, Harmsworth, Hedderweek, Heron, Hedley, Hunter, Ironside, Jameson, Johnson, Laidler, Leck, Mason, Miller, Milne, Nesbitt, Newton, Parkinson, Piery, Prudow, Reay, Reed, Read, Reid, Robinson, Ruddiman, Smith, Tait, Thompson, Watson, Wilson, Youn

Hi Craclyn

I have details of all those infant deaths you mentioned, but the only way I can eliminate them is by the sub-district, although I'm not 100% on this.  I am looking at Saint George (although I'm not too sure which areas this covers) and Ancoats.  Would you know if I can check these at Central Library by the references?

I'm not sure how else to eliminate people.

I pulled out that list from freebmd. If you then check each of them in familysearch you may be able to cut out some of them. Take a look for example at Ada 1903 and you will see that she has parents James and Ada, so I assume you can cross her off your list. This should help to reduce the options to a more manageable few that you can then consider sending for certificates.
Crackett, Cracket, Webb, Turner, Henderson, Murray, Carr, Stavers, Thornton, Oliver, Davis, Hall, Anderson, Atknin, Austin, Bainbridge, Beach, Bullman, Charlton, Chator, Corbett, Corsall, Coxon, Davis, Dinnin, Dow, Farside, Fitton, Garden, Geddes, Gowans, Harmsworth, Hedderweek, Heron, Hedley, Hunter, Ironside, Jameson, Johnson, Laidler, Leck, Mason, Miller, Milne, Nesbitt, Newton, Parkinson, Piery, Prudow, Reay, Reed, Read, Reid, Robinson, Ruddiman, Smith, Tait, Thompson, Watson, Wilson, Youn

Good luck. Let us know when you have narrowed that list down by the technique I suggested and then we can see if we have any more ideas on how to cut it further.

Were they christened at Christ Church, Bradford, Manchester? If so you could look through all the baptism records and see if you spot any called Hewitt
