« on: Tuesday 10 June 14 13:43 BST (UK) »
Hi all

i am writing a book on the chemists Druggist's & herbalists of the North east of England (for 10 years so far) and i have had no luck pinning this bottle and name down, pre 1868 they did not have to be registered as a druggist or chemist.

the first thing i am wanting a answer is this My Newcastle or another one Australia ?

the second is was he a chemist as the shape and style of the bottle imply's

Did you have any luck with the lead Stan gave you on your earlier thread?

no JenB just ended in a dead end :( Probable but the bottle seems to date from the 1860's to 1880's so unlikely to be the same one :( unless the company name continued under son's ect

Hi. I have in the past come across a Joseph Peacock Chemist and Druggist in Tyne Street, South Shields. I do not have any other information but it could be the same one.
 :)

I do not have any information as I came across them while researching another family but I have just looked at census records and the 1861 lists the family in Northumberland Square, Tynemouth and Joseph who was born in 1838 is listed as a chemist and druggist.
Joseph placed an advert in the Shields Gazette in 1869 stating that he was selling off the stock of his Chemist, Druggist and Grocers shop due to poor sales so it sort of narrows down the time you need to search.
 :)

That is amazing top information and will add it to the book It is also interesting that August the 1st 1868 was the date when they were required to take there examination and be certified, and not long after he winds the concern up ?
