Early 2025 HAS SLIPPED AWAY already! Will another year pass?  I am running out of time to get my brick walls sorted! Have they run out of funds? Script harder to read than they thought?  Strange that there is no news from either the Archive Ociffe or Ancestry.

In the latest Lost Cousins newsletter Peter Calver reports that unfortunately there has been a slight delay in the indexing process, and it’s likely to be several more months before Ancestry finally launch their new Suffolk Parish Registers collection.

Thanks very much indeed for the update and link. Well at some point this year we will have access to them!

I am beginning to have sneaking feeling that there will be great disappointment with this project.
I realise this is surmisal rather than fact, but are the new Ancestry parish records going to show anything that is not already available on FamilySearch or the Suffolk Family History Society?  Did those two august bodies not have access to all the parish records that were available?  If records were not kept, as I understand to be the case in some parishes around Orford at least, or if they are lost, where is the new stuff coming from?

BradyCMH - your assumptions are completely unfounded.

Access to high quality colour digital images of the original source images of Suffolk parish registers, archdeacons transcripts, bishops transcripts, wills etc will be an absolute gamechanger. Together with new indexed transcriptions linked to the images. All within the excellent value for money Ancestry subscription.

What we have so far are only transcriptions, or poor quality monochome film/fiche. FamilySearch have very little available for Suffolk. Findmypast have the best online Suffolk content at the moment.

I remember looking at some registers in Lowestoft records office some years ago. It was only by viewing the actual register that I was able to see information that didn't appear in transcriptions. And was able to clear up a mystery.

So being able to view the registers will be a benefit.

I think several transcriptions we find are taken from Boyds, Phillimores or Bishops Transcripts. Boyds and Phillimores are mere indexes and finding aids. Hence why it is a must to look at the original, or scans of the original registers. Witnesses to marriages 1754 1837 are fundamental as it is a great pre civil reg lifeline, as they were often relatives but as we know not always.
