There does seem to be a bit of a mix up with other people's research results. I'd a quick look at the 2 Florence blacksmiths in Peterhead. In 1851 census James' place of birth was Auchterless. James Florence's death certificate states that his father was James Florence, farmer (no mention of him being deceased.) His mother was Isabella Florence m.s. Moir, deceased. John , on the other hand, has his parents as James Florence & Ann Cruickshank. James Florence, the widower of Margaret Wright also has his parents as James Florence & Ann Cruickshank. So John, the blacksmith in Peterhead, was a brother of James, the farmer in Auchterless.
