Thomas Herbert MYERS
« on: Wednesday 28 May 14 17:31 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I have recently moved from the West Riding of Yorkshire to a small hamlet on the coast of East Yorkshire by the name of Cowden. Cowden is about 3 miles south of Hornsea. Having researched my paternal family, Hornsea and its surrounding villages are mentioned quite often.
Hornsea as a Garden of Remembrance where there is a memorial stone which is dedicated to those who fell in the two great world wars. One of those mentioned is Thomas Herbert Myers who too my surprise appears in my family tree - second cousin three times removed.
Thomas was born in Atwick a small hamlet about 2 miles north of Hornsea on the 25th July 1874.
I know nothing about his life until his marriage to Elizabeth Wetherston(e) in the 4th quarter of 1909. Elizabeth was born in the 4th quarter of 1882 in Hednesford, Staffordshire and appears as a Silk weaver living in Bingley West Yorkshire
In the 1911 census Thomas is a Able Bodied Seaman on board HMS "Mutine" whilst his wife is living at 14 Marlborough Ave, Hornsea having had no children.
Thomas loses his life whilst serving on board HMS "Defence" at the battle of Jutland on 31st May 1916.

Can anyone help me? I need to know if Thomas & Elizabeth had any children between 1911 and 1911 and did Elizabeth remarry after Thomas' demise.

Mothers maiden names are shown in the birth index after 1911, so you should be able to see if there are any Myers births with mother's maiden name Wetherston or similar on the years up to his death on FreeBMD
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

BNA - Hull Daily Mail 12 June 1916 Has a photo of him and a small written piece.  He was a member of the Victoria Perseverance Lodge (478) United Ancient Order of Druids, Hornsea.
