Ballincollig Military families from 1800 to 1922
« on: Saturday 24 May 14 16:31 BST (UK) »
Hello everybody,
Hello all,

I have to date about 1500 names of soldiers who served in Ballincollig, some only passing through.  As I keep adding to the numbers, I am also trying to make the information as reliable as possible. If you have done your family history and found Ballincollig, please send me details.   In return I might be of help.  I searched for Ballincollig in rootschat and answered as many military queries as I could.

I am also side lined just now by a request from our local history society to write up a list of WW1 participants from Ballincollig and the surrounding parishes.. Coachford, Inniscarra, Carrigrohane, Waterfall, Ovens, Farran, Farnanes. I have about 200 names, of mainly men, associated with these locations.  All additions welcome. Finding the dead is relatively easy. The survivors much harder,

Thank you all
Anne

Arthur Broadley, born 1879 Accrington, son of Robert Broadley and Esther Roberts, joined the 4th Dragoon Guards in 1900. There are several pages for him in Ancestry's Military Pension Records. He married Charlotte Norman 15 oct 1910 St John the Evangelist, Great Marsden and they had 2 children, Esther 1911 and Norman 1913. He received a Certificate of Education 3rd class at Ballincollig. In between his Boer War service and his WWI service, he was a postman, so maybe Ballincollig gave him a job? I have quite a lot of detail from the pension record, but would be glad to know of any other details, and anything else I can tell you about his family, just say.
Coincidentally, my sister lives in Ballincollig and has taken me on walks through the gunpowder factory area. Very special, claytonbradley
