Hi all
Just come across this thread while researching my family tree, I hope the information is still relevant and useful.

Private George Deadman and I share a great, great grandfather in Thomas Deadman (Dedman) of Fawkham, Longfield,  Kent.  George's mother was Lucy Deadman,  daughter of George Deadman and Mary Blaxtone.  George was born in 1899 and in the 1901 census is registered, as George Stacey, at the home of George Stacey's father, Richard Stacey.  George Stacey is registered there as is Lucy Deadman, as Lucy Stacey although their marriage wasn't until 1917.  I guess this implies that Pvt George's father was possibly George Stacey but that George enlisted under his correct surname at the time although by the time of his death (2 Nov 1918) he may have become Stacey.

George (Deadman) is commemorated at Northfleet cemetery along with A C Deadman, his cousin. He is listed as G/75298 Private G Deadman, 17th Bn., Royal Fusiliers.   To date I have identified 7 descendants of Thomas Dedman (Deadman) lost in the first war, including another George who went down with HMS Vanguard.

All the best

Mike Deadman
