Townland vs County
« on: Sunday 18 May 14 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hi to everyone!  Am brand new to this site but have been doing geneology since the 70's.  More off than on but I keep plugging away.
I have a death notice for my GGG Grandmother stating she was from Kildare.  I know where she is buried here in the states but have not had any success narrowing down the location in Kildare to a town...I have been to Kildare but at that time did not have her maiden name which I now know was Cuff...and of course, her first name was (what else) MARY!  She married Eugene Owen Reed/Reid (his tombstone says REED/hers says Reid) and Reid has carried down thru the generations.  No way of determining where in Kildare or what possible parish..  I have lots of documentation on these two here in the states from about 1830 (not very much on her) but can't cross the ocean.  NO IDEA WHERE HE ORIGNINATED OR WHERE THEY WERE MARRIED.  First child was born here.
 ???Any ideas?

I did a bit of searching after reading your other thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=687277.0
Unfortunately the dates are very early for Irish records. I haven't been able to find anything, if they do exist they are likely to be in the National Library of Ireland and not online yet.
This site gives you the parishes in Kildare, click on each one to see what records are available and where.

RootsIreland has some transcriptions (pay to View) but I couldn't find a match http://kildare.rootsireland.ie/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMenu=sources

Thanks so very much.  I know with the fire and the early year that I may be at a dead end but absolutely NOTHING was as thrilling as stepping off the bus and walking around that town.  Such an amazing feeling!  Thank you all for the help you provide to all of us that so desperately want that connection with your wonderful country!
Thanks for the lead,  I'll keep plugging away!
Thanks again
Pam
