I've found a Henry Pulsford who might be Henry Metcalfe Pulsford, and he's a China & Glass Dealer.

Is this the shopkeeper?

1871
Class: RG10; Piece: 724; Folio: 5; Page: 4;

Ah - he's from Oxford :-(

So this is only useful for elimination.

I found an Henry Pulsford 1841 aged 23 living in Royal Hotel Prittlewell Essex, not born in county, I can't read the initials of his employment , I wondered if this was Henry Metcalfe Pulsford, other than that I can't find him, he does not appear to use the middle Christian name, pity we could have pinned him down sooner

Book binding seems to feature within the Olney family

Hi

Thank-you all for your continued help  :).  It's so encouraging and exciting to learn more.

Bookbox, thanks for explaining about the census numbering.  I have  goggled to find out what a Tambour Worker is and have found its embroidery lace work.

Louisa maud , the Henry you found at Royal Hotel certainly sounds as if he may be Henry Metcalfe.  I wish they would use their full names especially when they aren't common ones.

I have been in contact with the Enfield Local Studies Library and Archive.  They kindly searched their records to see if the Pulsford name turned up.  There was no record of a Henry Pulsford having a shop there.  The only records were the children's baptisms .  So it looks as if the family was there for only a short period of time.

I have found reference to a Henry Pulsford being a partner in Trelove, Pulsford and Son  Button-sellers & Haberdashers, 40, St.Martin's-lane, Charing-cross.  This was in the Directory of London and Westminster, & Borough of Southwark 1794.  There may be no connection at all.  I think my Henry would have been too young to be that person.

This genealogy is just like trying to do a very large jigsaw puzzle without know what the pictures looks like.  Frustrating sometimes but very addictive.

One again thanks for your help.
