Henry Pulsford & Jane Collett - Enfield, Middlesex
« on: Sunday 18 May 14 04:36 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am seeking any information on my Great x 3 Grandparents Henry Pulsford and Jane Collett.  What I know so far is that they were married at St James, Westminster on the 12 July 1812.

I have found records of the following children being born / baptised  -

Tryphena Jane Pulsford  - 23 June 1814
Julia Maria Pulsford - 1815
Henry Metcalfe Pulsford  - 14 November 1817

Witnesses on the marriage record are shown as William Pulsford and Mary Pulsford.

I understand that Henry Pulsford was a shopkeeper at Ponders End.

If anyone has any information I would very much appreciate it.  Any suggestions on where to look would be great as well.

I've hunted on Ancestry , Family Search and FreeREG but haven't made any progress.

Thanks

Not sure what you want but so far found the following

Tryphena Jane Pulsford married William Wood, possibly a master bookbinder
St Lukes
1848

This certificate would possibly tell you where they were living 1841and if her father was still alive

One Jane PULSFORD aged 55 was buried 6 Nov 1836 at St John the Baptist, Shoreditch, from Ashford Street.

This is in Hoxton, about 5 minutes walk from Somerset Place, where Tryphena is found in 1841.

Thank-you so much Louisa maud, rosie99 and Bookbox for all of this information, very much appreciated.

Louisa maud , Tryphena & William are my Great x 2 Grandparents.  I have them marrying in 1846 with my Great Grandfather being born in 1847.  I definitely need to get a copy of the certificate.

rosie99, that very interesting to learn that on Julia Maria's marriage record Henry Pulsford's occupation is a Steward.  More questions being raised.  Perhaps he wasn't a shop keeper after all.

Bookbox, that certainly sounds like it my Jane.  Could you please explain what the letters and numbers you quoted relate to.

All of the information has given my new leads to follow up on.

Thanks again

Tryphena was married in St Luke's registration district, this churches records do not appear online as far as I can see

Tryphena Jane Pulsford
married William Wood
1848

ref 2  234

These refs come from
www.freebmd.org.uk
Here you will find births deaths and marriages  from 1837 when registration started although registering births wasn't compulsory till about 1875

The childrens baptisms say he is a shop keeper.

Bookbox, that certainly sounds like it my Jane.  Could you please explain what the letters and numbers you quoted relate to.

The number given in my reply #3 is a 1841 census reference.

1841 census
HO107 Piece 707 Book 6 Folio 50 page 24
Somerset Place, St Leonard Shoreditch, Middlesex
John Higgins, 35, Clerk, Yes  (= born in Middlesex)
Mary Higgins, 30, Yes
Jesse Higgins, 4, Yes (age is entered in Male column)
Elinor Higgins, 2, Yes
Mary Muskett, 70, Ind(ependen)t, Yes
Tryphemia Pulsford* 25, Tambour Worker, Yes

* The name is hard to read. It's been indexed by Ancestry as Tryphena REDEFEAL.
A correction submitted by an Ancestry user suggests Tryphena PULSFORD.
Find My Past has Tryphemia BELSFORD.

In 1841, adult ages (over 15) should have been rounded down to the nearest five, so she could have been aged 25-29.

Tryphena Jane Pulsford married William Wood, possibly a master bookbinder

That's the claim in the 1851 census (Class: HO107; Piece: 1521; Folio: 93; Page: 1)
