Hi!
Could anyone check in the censuses in Australia (1891 and 1901 if they are available) if there is a Thomas Preen, born about 1862 in Gloucestershire, England. He came to Australia in 1881 as a seaman.

Hi Markus,

Unfortunately no census data exists for Australia - very small pockets of data were kept for particular areas, early on in NSW and Port Phillip but that is around the 1840's I think.

They don't even routinely keep census data now - they asked people if they wanted their data kept in 2001 or whenever the last census was but it was optional. A sort of time capsule...  ::)

I of course said yes!! You never know who might want to look at it in a hundred years time  ;)

Sorry I couldn't help more. You might be able to check post office directories or electoral rolls for your fellow

Do you know which state he came to? Also any details of parents / family. Most of the BDM indexes in Australia give parent and/or spouse information.

There is also the birth of a child to this couple in WA 1904
