I sympathise with your problem. You might try something of an alternative approach.

If it is webpages you are printing out Firefox has the Print Edit add-on that enables you to cut out all the coloured decorations etc that use up all the ink to leave just the part you want. Available free from the Mozilla site. There is I'm told an equivalent for Chrome too.

For other print out you could just print as a PDF and store it on your computer somewhere. A pseudo-printer which installs as if it were a printer creates these. Try CutePDF or my favourite PDFCreator. Again free software.
