You're in luck as they lived in Scotland you can buy and view them on- line.
If you go to
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/You can search for each certificate then buy them and view straight away.
It seems you spend a minimum of £7 and for that you can look at up to 6 certificates or other documents.The cost varies a little for different certificates or Wills etc.
I've not actually bought anything from them myself but others say it's quite simple when you get the hang of it.
