Hello Linda,
Thank you ever so much for going out of your way to look up my John Oake, greatly appreciated.
This Elizabeth Oaks that you found could be my John Oake's sister, however at present I have no way of corroborating it but will keep it in mind in case some further evidence comes up. There is a long line of Elizabeths in my Oake family which makes it look promising.
If you are familiar with the Newport area, would you know if there were a lot of Oake families around there in the early 19th c? And is there any on line site dedicated to the Isle of Wight?
This John Oake was my great, great grandfather and married my gg grandmother Sarah Augusta Goodger March Q 1841 in Newington, London. On the 1851 census it states that he had a son John Oake born about 1837 Bermondsey, Surrey as it is before his marriage to my gg grandmother he must have been married before??? Can´f find birth for this son anywhere??? Big mystery?http://www.rootschat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/huh.gif
Once again, many thanks for your help & kindness,
Maria
