Hi LodgeLady

This is a great example of why it is so important to get the birth and marriage certs for parents and Grandparents before trying to go back further in a family tree.  It is these certs that will confirm who the previous generation were or at least give enough information to enable you to identify them correctly.  Without this information you can find yourself researching the wrong family - which is what I appear to have done!

I will definitely email you the information I found and where I found it and I hope you will let me know what you find in your parents and grandparents birth and marriage certificates.

All the best.

LostandFound,

I just messaged you my email address.  If you don't mind, I would really appreciate if you could send the census information you have.

You may not be researching the wrong family.  We may find that our information was incorrect.  I would just like to know one way or the other.  At least I may find some more information that will help me track down the truth.

Thanks so much for your time and help.

In case it helps, there are some websites that have certificates for the areas in the US that you are looking in.  West Virginia has a very good vital records site here - http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx  The same information is duplicated on www.familysearch.org, and I find searching just the parents' names on there can bring up helpful information on siblings.

Pennsylvania has a portion of its death records now on ancestry.com with more expected this year.  For more information, see here - http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=582973.0

http://www.deathindexes.com/sites.html has lots of links to online sources by state/county.
