Looks like a deceased vicar to me.

This was my thought when I first looked at this a couple of days ago. (but I couldn't see a prop  ;D) Posing him sitting at that angle on the chair (which looks oddly casual for the time and the status of the 'sitter') must be so he can be propped upright with a support behind the chair.

I am really curious about the oval 'thing' near his feet below the shrub. Can anyone work out what it is?

Interesting photo.

Interesting photo.

Could the thing behind his feet, in front of the shrub, be a upturned hat and gloves?

Chapman from Haddenham to North Marston, Buckinghamshire; Bradwin in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire; Cox in  Haddenham, Buckinghamshire and may be more Haddenham families as I make my journey back in time :)

If you do a seach as

David Trevor Ashby-de-la-Zouch

you can find some information (addresses, dates etc) on Early Leicestershire Photographers where David Trevor is listed.

Sorry can't give exact link as I am using my tablet and can't cut and paste.  ???

Exactly what I was thinking and I still couldn't work it out. Out of context I suppose - you don't expect a hat and gloves to be at someone's feet ... I did think it looked a bit creepy though (and I still so even though I now know what the objects are.)

Here's an "enlargement" cropped from the 14Mb hi-res bitmap.

I had thought it was Canon Feilden; but now I don't think it is...
