It's a technical article that involves editing the Windows Registry, so it's not recommended unless you're familiar with the Windows Registry Editor. Quite naturally, also, only make any changes after you have made a full backup of your machine.

It essentially makes your 32bit  Windows XP machine report itself as a Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 machine which is based on XP, but has extended support. Interestingly, a "POS" machine is a "Point of Sale" machine - essentially the kind of machine at the checkout of a supermarket, restaurant or other shop with a till with a screen.
