Hello
I have been researching my family via ancestry, particularly my grandmother Nora O'Brien's family. She was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne but her grandfather Richard (who spells his name O'Bryan in the census) was born in Ireland. I know from his marriage certificate to Anne Robinson in 1851 in Gateshead that he was a groom/coachman and that his father's name was John (here spelled O'Bryen!) and he was a gardener (I suspect in service). Richard gives his age as 29 in 1851, giving his year of birth 1822. In most census records Richard has just put his place of birth as "Ireland". I cannot find him on an 1841 census (still in Ireland?) but in 1851 he is in Gateshead (Newcastle UK) and this is the only census where he gives a PLACE in Ireland but it is very hard to read. Ancestry transcribes it as "Rotherte, Ireland" (and his name is given as Richard Bryan).
I am hoping somebody here can help me to read it/might recognise it!
Thanks
Christina
