OK  that has answered the age thing then...... :-\
The only bit of corroboration that I have in my initial notes is that Richard and Sarah had two sons....Richard and William, with Richard being born in 1884.  His brother William apparently left as a young adult and went to Texas?

Hi

The Burnside/Mullen marriage is 16 July 1904 at 6 King Street, Tain, Ross & Cromarty.  Richard Burnside Jnr was living in Aberdeen at the time.

I think I have found Sarah Campbell (Burnside) dying but it gives a different year of birth again (1861) but that would correct her to 20 when she married Richard Burnside.

December 16 1933 (aged 72), Sarah Goodship died at the Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen, first husband named as Richard Burnside, General Dealer and second husband Harry Abel Goodship, General Labourer. Sarah's parents from her death certificate are Mark Campbell (Horse Dealer) and Betty (nee Rutherford).  I think that must be her.  Her cause of death was Chronic Myocarditis, Acidosis and Cardiac Failure

Will see if I can find the Goodship and Burnside/Campbell marriage but with her parents looking like Mark and Betty they may turn up on a census...

If they were still living in Lanarkshire when Richard jr married then you should try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

You can buy credits to do searches and access copies of the relevant documents.

The Goodship and Burnside/Campbell marriage doesn't confirm much apart from the fact that Sarah was living in Inverness and was widowed with Mark & Betty as parents

She married Harry on 29 June 1915 in Inverness and was 40 years of age which again I think is wrong as this would mean she was born in 1875!!!  That said Mr Goodship was only 31 at the time so she might have knocked a bit off her age to make it more 'respectable'  ;D

How about

1881 census at Faugh, Hayton RG11 5148 62 17

Mark Campbell, Head, 50, Licensed Hawker, born Spittle, Northumberland
Betsy Campbell, Wife, 50, born Alnwick
Sarah Campbell, Dau, 18, born Glanton, Durham
John M Campbell, Son, 16, born Glanton, Durham

1871 census at Glanton  RG10 5175 21 5

Mark Campbell, Head, 40, Horse Dealer, born Tweedmouth
Elizabeth Campbell, Wife, 40, born Alnwick
Mary Campbell, Dau, 16 born Longhorsley
Mark Campbell, Son, 12 born Longhorsley
Sarah Campbell, Dau, 8, born Whittingham, Durham
John Michael Campbell, Son, 6, born Whittingham, Durham

i wouldn't worry too much about the different birthplaces as you often find people just didn't know or got confused

Thanks Craclyn, I have been using Scotlands People but instead of using my credits at home (as I am new to this and use loads!!) lol.....I go to my local family history unit and pay 15 for the whole day....just thought I'd try find some new info on here for a while also. With a lot of my history being in England, it isn't quite so easy for me to access records. The help on here is amazing!
Thanks again Ruth.  With the Inverness link it would seem that this really must be her, I agree.  I just need to try and work out the dates a bit better for her birth etc.  I and a date down as 1874 which would have made her a mum to Bessie at age 14!! ....I suppose a lot of it is quess work..;-)

The 1901 census I found has a son William aged 7, Richard 17 was  born England, Bessie age 13 British subject USA ,Mark, William and Annie born Hamilton.
Richard could have been a coalminer dabbling in other occupations wasn t that unusual.

If you are looking for English records then a good starting place is the freebie sites freebmd.org.uk, freereg.org.uk and freecen.org.uk. For a more complete set of records you could take a look at findmypast.co.uk which is a pay site where you can also buy credits.

Well, I have managed to find Sarah and Harry Goodships marriage extract, from the Inverness records.  All info is tying in nicely with new leads.....what an adventure! lol
