William Scott, born 1809, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire
« on: Monday 07 April 14 20:06 BST (UK) »
William was the 6th child and third son of William Scott and Margaret Craig, and he was born at the family farm, Greenhills, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on 24 August 1809.

His father wrote a will in September 1841 in which he left William £20 sterling. After that I have found no trace of him.

Does anyone know what became of William?

I appear to be descended from another branch - WIlliam and Margaret's son, James who was born in 1811 (died in 1869) - could we compare notes?

With the greatest of pleasure.

I have William Scott, B 1771, D17/05/1842 married Margrate Craig B 1776.
I only have the one branch from there James, B: 1811, D: 02/09/1869, married Isabella Baird B1816, m 20/12/1833. - I have a photo of James (I think)

Following from there, I have a fairly good record

William Scott and Margaret Craig had six sons and three daughters. I think two of the sons predeceased their father, but I have information about descendants of all three daughters and three of the four remaining sons, including some of James' descendants. The missing one is William, born 1809.

I also have a theory about the parentage of Isabella Baird to bounce off you.

Gads am I in trouble now.  Email me and I'll forward his birth.

Born Aug 27, 1809 at Greenhills, no baptism date entered.  I spotted him when sorting some births out (he's on the same page as William "me"), I even made a post-it note to let you know.  I think the next day or day after I left for Scotland got sidetracked and forgot.

Don
I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

I came across some other strands associated with the Greenhill Scotts...

A couple of generations on from William, but it may be of use

Thanks, Don. That's very helpful.

Litotes, I am happy to be able to say that I actually know more about the family of William Scott and Eliza Hamilton than whoever put the Hamilton web site together :)

Elizabeth's father, Andrew, was a gt gt uncle of my husband. Anything that you can tell me about her descendants would be very much appreciated.
