Hi ,
Many thanks for this .
The 1851 is one of the census that I have little from, and therefore this entry is most welcome.

I noticed RAY in your signature ... my wife's grandmother was Amy RAY she was born 1889 in Tyers Street, Vauxhall
Lambeth daughter of Richard William RAY b abt 1859 Lambeth, and Alice KITT.
Amy's siblings  Mary b abt 1885  Alice b. abt 1887 Primrose b abt 1892 LOUISA B ABT 1895  Eleanor G b abt 1897  William b abt 1900.
Just in case you come across anything.

Best wishes    James.

Hello James,

In the East Grinstead Burial Register, 1813 to 1840, there is the following:

Entry No. 887
James BORER
Abode: East Grinstead
Date of burial: 30th May 1828
Age: 33

If you are interested, there are 3 Boorers in the East Grinstead 1851 census and a family of Borrers in the 1851 census for Hartfield.

If you want the details, just let me know.

Best wishes,
                     Phil

James,

I will post the census details over the weekend on your One Name Study listing. Due to zero typing skills and my copy of the index being in book form, I can't rattle them out that quick.

Do you know the area at all? If you don't I'll expand on the locations a bit if necessary.

Regards,
              Phil

James.

I didn't get a chance to check last night: the 1851 Lingfield census is knee deep in them- seven heads of household anyway. If you haven't already got them, I'll pass them on.

Also a further thought on the East Grinstead ones. If you compare the 1851 census with the Ashdown Forest book I referred to in the post I left on your One Name Study, it appears that Bowrah has been used instead of Boorer in one area of the parish by two, or possibly three, of the enumerators. It would certainly account for the apparent lack of them in East Grinstead and I can't find that spelling used elsewhere locally in 1851. What do you think?

Happy Hunting,

Phil
