Jupiter Mine was next door to the Simmer mine in Germiston.  They both went into liquidation in 1920. The Simmer and Jack Mine is now a living museum. At the entrance to Germiston, on the western side, is a fountain in the shape of a mine headgear; the play of the water and brilliant illumination at night contribute to a spectacular effect.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my search for the Jupiter Mine.  All the info helped me pin the location down - I've just met up with a relative of a relative who lived in Jo-Burg for a few years, and has been able to confirm locatation of the mine - it is just to the west ( maybe south-west) of the Geldenhuys Interchange on the road from Johannesburg to Germiston. 
What an adventure.

My great grandfather Ernest Davey worked at Jupiter mines in 1914. His address was on my grandfather's joining up papers as: Cottage 106, Jupiter Mines, Germiston.

If anyone has any photographs I would be very interested to see them!
