hi, me again,fedup now,trying hard to find a birth for John Dimmock Baptised 21 feb 1821 Shenton LEICS But unable to find a birth record for him,
i sent for marriage certificate states married Mary Hubbard june 23 1851 Basford Notts , and states John,s father as Thomas Dimmocks,,as did John,s surname end with an s..
got John on a 1871census in Burton on Trent STAFFS
Can,t find death for John after this time either,
it makes it more confusing because of Dimmock being spelt in different ways.

Before 1st July 1837, when Civil Registration started, there aren't any birth records!

Just Baptism records in the parish register.
Some incumbents allso wrote in a date of birth, but not all.


Also, remember that spelling wasn't all that important back then!
Was John literate? Did he sign the marriage certificate, or did he make his mark?
