Edward Prenter/Printer family Warringstown Ireland 1785
« on: Saturday 05 April 14 11:07 BST (UK) »
I am research the family of Edward Prenter born bat 1785, who Lived in Warringstown County Down Ireland. He married Elizabeth born abt 1800. They had a number of children. William Prenter/Printer married Mary Burns b, abt 1840, also from Warringstown in 1858.

William and Mary Prenter/Printer had a number of children, Anne, John,Emily and Joseph who became an Engine Driver.

Apart from Joseph the remainder of the family lived in 1 Victoria Street, Lurgan and were employed in the Linen industry

There is a story circulating that three Prenter brothers came to Ireland with King William to fight King James for the English crown. following the Williamnite wars two brothers settled in Co Down and the third settled in Armagh.

I know of a large family of Prenter's living around the Dromore area of Co Down and a third group living around Seapatrick--Banbridge. I have never found a connection between these groups of Prenters/Printers can anyone help?

Hi -

My grandmother was Mary Prenter and I have traced her line back to Thomas Prenter and Ellen Savage, who were married in Lurgan in 1858. Thomas worked as a Weaver at the time of his marriage, and his father was Michael Prenter, a labourer. Have any of these names cropped up in your research? Perhaps Michael Prenter was a sibling of William if his son Thomas was also employed in the linen industry?

Hi Stephen,
I searched my records and I can't find a Thomas, Michael Prenter nor a Mary Savage. However, I have been researching the Prenter family for quite a few years now and I was aware of a Michael and son Thomas in Lurgan but I can't find any connection to my family.

After saying that, the location of the two families Warringstown and Lurgan is very interesting as the next closest Prenters would be in Dromore or Seapatrick and the timeline would work.

Edward Prenter born about 1786 was a saddler and his son William was also a Saddler, but Williams children were involved in the Linen Industry in Lurgan and we find the in the 1901 census in Victoria Street, but there name appears as Printer.

I would like to compare notes with your research so you can contact me at (*)

Best regards Stephen

My Father was Edward son of John (Railway Servant) who was of course the son of Joseph (Engine driver) or at least the census says. If you haven't already, check out the http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie for 1901 & 1911. I only lived a couple years in the family house 66 Parkmount Street in Belfast which had been the family home since 1911. Before that they lived one street up at 75 Seaview Street. Hope this helps a little...
