Death in Leckhampton 1889

Hi

I am trying to find out where an ancestor is buried.  Her name was Sarah Best and she died in December 1889 in Norwood Street, Leckhampton.  I have tried the Bouncers Lane cemetery but they do not have any record of a burial  and the church in Leckhampton also have no record of her burial in the churchyard there.  Has anyone got any idea where I can look next?  Thank you for your help.

Hi Helen,
It is possible that Sarah was buried at St Mary, Cheltenham, the main parish church for Cheltenham, now a Minster.
I have pre-ordered the St Mary Burial Register covering 1889 to await my visit next week, and will check to see if Sarah is buried there.
Will contact you next week with my findings.

Thank you for your replies.  I look forward to hearing from you Victor when you have visited next week.  I am hoping to visit Cheltenham on Wednesday to go to the library and Bouncers Lane cemetery to find other family graves.  Thanks again.

Hi Helen,
I have, today, checked both St Mary, Cheltenham and St Mary, Charlton Kings, which is adjacent to Leckhampton, without success.
On reflection, after arriving at home, one further possibility is St Paul, Shurdington, which is probably about 2-3 miles away from Norwood Street, Leckhampton.
I shall be in the Cheltenham Library, Family History section, which is behind the main Cheltenham Library, on the 1st Floor above the Children's Library, if you wish to meet, at 11.00 a.m., and I shall be on Computer No 20.

I have checked the St Paul, Shurdington burial register and have drawn a blank.
The only thing I can think of is was she married? If so, did she die after her husband? If so, where is he buried?
If she was a spinster, where are her parents buried?

Sorry I've been so long in replying.  Thanks for looking at St Pauls Shurdington.  She was married and in 1861 census she is listed as a widow.  I have found a possible death of her husband, Joseph, in 1860 but have not tried to locate his grave as yet.  Thank you so much for your help.  Sarah was born in Cirencester but she was married at the church in Leckhampton.

Hi Helen,
I have revisited this problem and my findings are as follows.
Joseph BEST d.1860 Cheltenham 6a 243 Jun Qtr, aged 47.
Sarah BEST d.1889 Cheltenham 6a 244 Dec Qtr, aged 76.
Both deaths were registered in the Charlton Kings, Cheltenham district, which covers Leckhampton.
Now, there are 2 churches in Leckhampton, St Peter and St Phillip & St James. Which of these two parish burial registers have you checked? The Glos Archives (GA) references are as follows:-
St Peter, Leckhampton
1860 - PFC 198/1 IN 1/16 1 or 2
1889 - PFC 198/1 IN 1/17 4
St Phillip & St James
1840 to 1942 - P198/2 IN 1/10 (needs to be pre-ordered)
I shall be in GA tomorrow, so please let me know which route I should follow.
