Handwriting help 1810 will
« on: Tuesday 25 March 14 21:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I'm having problems deciphering a few words at the bottom of a will. It looks as if a boat has been left but not sure if the name of the boat is mentioned, there is also mention of a mast(?).

Can anyone help decipher these 2 lines in the will?

Thanks

It's not 'mast' as the last two lines are:

And to my son Molton the B? if their should be out if not
to buy him out at 4 or 5 pounds value he having made free
with more than his share.

I'm not sure about the 'Boate' (?). It's odd that he refers to his son merely as Molton, but I think it must be asking him to sort out the money if things don't work out for the others.

I think it says

"..... the Boate if there should be one if not to buy him one at 4 or 5 pounds value..... "

That sounds much more sensible! (And looks right).

Thanks for the deciphering.

The son mentioned is J Molton, Joseph was the eldest, but the J and M seem to be written as one letter.
