Hello Jan57

I think I have found the marriage for Mary Ann Hickman born 1875, from free BMD
Marriage for Mary Ann Hickman from Free BMD
Marriages Dec 1899   (>99%)
Hickman    Mary Ann                    Wolverhampton    6b   986
Shipley    John         Wolverhampton    6b   986

because they are on the 1901 and he is an Iron Brazier born Wolverhampton and she born in Bilston.
Also on the latest Census 1911 Census for Mary Ann Hickman from Ancestry.co.uk
John Shipley    Head   Age 35   M   Occ: General Labourer at Boiler Makers. B.c. 1876   Born Wolverhampton
Mary Ann Shipley    Wife   Age 35   M 11 yrs 4 children. 1 living, 3 died.`       B.c. 1876   Born Bilston
Gladys Shipley    Daug   Age   9      School             B.c. 1902

as these do tie in with her birth, etc.

As for the other Mary Ann Hickman I cannot find a death or a marriage.

Hi Gillian, I'm doing some research for the BBC on a geneology item and I'm looking into the Hickman family.

I'm particularly interested in John Hickman born 1885. It says on the notes I have that he was born in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire. Bletchingdon isn't too far from Birmingham and I was wondering if  the John Hickman you've mentioned in your first post could be the same?

Sorry for contacting you out of the blue, just thought it would be great if we could make the connection!  :)

Hannah

Hello Hannah
The only 'John Hickmans' I have are as follows;
John Edward Hickman born c. 1852 Darlaston Staffs
John E Hickman born c. 1880 Pretoria, South Africa.
John T Hickman born c. 1911 Dudley Staffs
John Owen Hickman born c. 1870 Sedgley Staffs
John Hickman born c. 1894 Birmingham.

Most of the Hickman family appear to have come from over the 'Black Country' way, ie: Staffordshire, so I am afraid I cannot help you, which I regret.

I have not done any research on this family for a very long time anyway, and rest assured, I have no problem with you coming to me 'out of the blue' :)

Bletchingdon does appear, to me anyway, to be quite a way from Birmingham, but I do hope you can sort your John Hickman out.
Have you tried searching members on Ancestry?

Best of luck anyway
Regards
Gill Reynolds

Thanks Gillian and Jackie for getting back to me.

I didn't have that census information so that's great! I'm fairly new to this, we're trying to track down any ancestors that John Hickman might have, any research suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  ;D
