1901 census Bellshill look up please ?
« on: Thursday 23 June 05 08:21 BST (UK) »
Searching for Joseph McGuckin, who married Ellen McKeown at Bellshill, May 13 1900. Son Willie John born July 24 1900. At 1901 census, Ellen was back with family in Ireland, widowed. I cannot find Joseph anywhere, would love to know who they lived with. Before their marriage Joseph lived at 63 Clydesdale buildings, and Ellen at 67 Clydesdale buildings, Holytown.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kaz & Snowwhite, thanks for looking  :o.
I've searched all over for Joseph's death cert., no joy ! (or should I say, no Joe ?) Anyway, story handed down through his son, Willie John, was that Joseph jumped off a bridge because they were not allowed to marry. I've proved the marriage, but not the death. Joe was a journeyman welder, so it's possible that he "fell" off a bridge while working.
Tried all variations on scotlands people, no recorded death.
Thanks again, Chas.

Hi Chas,

I don't know anything about the person you are asking about, but I would like to know if you have a Bridget McGuckin who married William Mowat. I believe they were married in 1919 in Kelvin, Glasgow.
