« on: Thursday 20 March 14 23:42 GMT (UK) »
William STRACHAN b. abt 1864 Gourock, Renfrewshire was the son of architect George Strachan who d. 1899. William m.Jane Lyon NIVEN, was a Timber Merchant, Wright & Builder (Baltic Saw Mills) & lived in Dalziel Drive, Llandudno. He d. 1929. Known surviving children were: John Niven Strachan, an Ironmonger, who d. 1955. His wife was Jessie Small.  Informant at death was his sister Margaret who had married George Wilson SMALL in 1934.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how or if any living descendents of these people can be traced and contacted?
This query is on behalf of a descendent of Helen, b. 1872, a sister of William Strachan; she married Robert GORDON.
Thanks. Sylvia

A William A Strachan aged 78 died in 1929 but in Lambeth London - where did your William die?

Where did John Niven Strachan and Jessie marry and die?

Where did Margaret marry and live?

Well, Carole, thanks for replying - the births in Brentford are an interesting possibility - would not have thought of looking "down south" as we only know of the family being in Renfrewshire & then Glasgow, as I thought I had indicated, or at least implied.  The place name Llandudno may have confused - but is not in Wales, but Glasgow. :)  Certainly all the events I referred to have been documented in those Scottish Counties.  Indeed there is a memorial at Cathcart Cemetery, Glasgow, recorded on this website: http://glasgowancestry.blogspot.com.au/2009_02_01_archive.html

A further clarification - the "Llandudno" is the name of the Strachan House in Dalziel Drive, Pollokshields.  Have now downloaded original 1901 image from ScotlandsPeople -previously used Ancestry transcription, which, while not wrong, was a bit misleading!

Further info is that John Niven Strachan who m. Jessie Gardner Small in 1928, Queens Park Parish, Glasgow and Margaret Tayor Strachan m. George Wilson Small 1934 at Eastwood, was a case of a brother & sister marrying a brother and sister, as both Smalls were children of Andrew Small a wine & spirit merchant (dec).

Hi

Yes - the Llandudno did give the impression they lived in Wales hence the "English/Welsh" search

Scotlands People is really the only place you would get info on any children born to John & Jessie and to Margaret & George

It would mean looking for Strachan & Small births in the locality and then seeing if the parents were as expected

Mind you - I suppose if you found just one birth and were able to use that info for contact purposes it would probably lead to info about other children

Good luck
