The Monmouth Rebels 1685

Hi, Everyone,
Have just purchased a copy of the book: "The Monmouth Rebels", compiled by W. Macdonald Winfield and published in 1985.  It lists all the Rebels rounded up and tried at the infamous Bloody Assizes all over the West Country after the battle of Sedgemoor in 1685.  Most of the individuals are from Somerset, though of course there are others from Devon and Dorset, and a very few from Wiltshire and Hampshire.
If anyone suspects they may have had family members from this time involved in this desperate episode in English history, I'm more than willing to look up any reference to them in this book...

There are quite a few entries for some of the names you have listed...
The CHANNON's are represented by a Caleb and a John; the CHANNING's by a John, a Matthias, a Robert, a Roger, a Thomas junior, and a William.
The DYKE family by a James, a John or Jonathan, and a Richard.
The GALE family by an Edward, a James, a John, a Joseph and a Thomas
And there's an Edward KEENE

A couple of TUTCHER's, but not TUTCHIN...
However, several with the PITTS surname: A James, and a James junior, another James, three by the forename of John, and yet another called Jonathan.  Not much variation in the forenames there!  But are any of these of interest to you?

I'm interested to know what you have on the all the TUTCHER's and if there is a Thomas PITT(S) there at all?
Of course,this was at a time when surnames were in the formative years and had many variations so similar names would be most acceptable too.

Thanks for that. I guess it depends on the areas where these people were from. Are any parish names given?

As far as the names themselves go I will check my trees to see if any of these crop up. I am certain the name John Channon/Channing crops seeral times, and I know there are lots of mentions of William and Thomas as well. All my Channon/Channing family were in Exeter.

My Dyke family is big but there are several mentions of the name James and John, although I don't think I have seen any Jonathon so far.

I can't remember who is in my Gall/Gale tree so I will check. I am sure there is a William but not sure about the rest.

I don't think there's an Edward Keene in my tree but I would be interest to know more about him in case he is linked to my Keene family.
