The Monmouth Rebels 1685

I am trying to find information on Shearings - Aaron/Moses - that were rebels and sold to American Colonel as indentured slaves. Trying to find any leads on where they were from prior to being sold to America. Any mention in the book?

…I'm afraid there is no-one by that surname in the list, the nearest being a John SHIERE and a Philip SHIER.
The very first name in the list is: "AARON, probably a negro servant, Mr Palmer's man of Bishop's Hull (Somerset), absent, not taken - but I don't imagine this is who you are looking for!

Hello there. I'm quite sure my family name 'Holder' was caught up in the Monmouthshire Rebelion. Is that right? I have only got back to 19th century with this so far, and any 'Holder' was slaved out in Barbados.

Just had a look, and there isn't a single HOLDER name in the list, I'm afraid…

I think that I have pinpointed my John Tutchin as I have just found this;
"In the summer of 1685 when still in his early twenties he joined the Duke of Monmouth's Rebellion under the assumed name of Thomas PITTS."
If you could relook his assumed name it would be great.

There is no one individual with the name "Thomas PITTS", there is a Thomas PITT, a worsted comber, of Tiverton, imprisoned in the High Gaol, Devon…
and several men with the PITTS surname, namely:
James PITTS, mercer, of Lyme Regis
James PITTS junior, presented at Wells, recommended for a pardon
Three entries of a John PITTS, who might have referred to the same man - John PITTS of Knowle St Giles, "in the rebellion and not come in".  Tried at Dorchester, and transported for Booth on the "Happy Return" from Weymouth, Sep 25th to Barbados; sold to Col Richard Williams.
…and a Jonathan PITTS of Knowle St Giles…
All very confusing, and quite possibly none of these entries refer to your man…

In my last post I was referring to John Tutchin who was made a prisoner by Judge Jeffreys who for John's part in the rebellion would have him 'flogged through every town in Dorset' and became known as  'The Bloody Assizes'

Strange, then, that his name does not appear in the extensive list of almost four thousand "Rebels", either under his real name or under his alias.  Maybe the list is not as exhaustive as we are led to believe.  Do you know from which town or village he hailed...?
