Charles Brock, b. Yarmouth 1850
« on: Sunday 16 March 14 17:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I've not been on here for some time, as my research has come to a halt. Well, a pause, anyway. Brick walls everywhere. But I've done well, and got back a long way on most of my lines. But after a year of putting my research on the back burner, I'm hoping to make some progress now.

One line that has frustrated me is Charles Brock, b. 31.7.1850 in Row 130, Gt Yarmouth. He's in the 1851 Census - King Street, Yarmouth (just down the road), but that's it. No death that I can find. And nothing after.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you found his parents, George and Elizabeth after 1851 - I can't see them at the moment?

Yes, Elizabeth.

Missing in 1861, but moved to Westminster in 1871 and to be found there until their deaths.

I think the 1861 may be the key...

Have you discounted this death?

on excellent suggestion, groom, but I got the death certificate.

He is the grandson of Charles' father, and the son of George. Died 3 weeks old, poor little thing.

Do you know when they moved to Westminster?  Have you discounted the 1863 death in Westminster?

No, I don't know when they arrived in Westminster.

The 1863 death is Charles, son of George and Mary Ann (nee Grimmer). George is son of George William.

Another premature death - he was 11 months old. Probably of a disease related to syphilis, related to his mother. So many of her children died very young.

But thanks for looking - I find another's eyes so useful. I hope you don't think I'm dismissing your suggestions.

So am I right in thinking you don't have any of the family in 1861? If not, I guess it is either a bad transcription or perhaps a missing census page. That still wouldn't explain where he got to after that though would it?

Spot on, groom. An annoying gap...

I've tried different spellings for 1861. No success. I wonder if they were actually moving from Norfolk to London on Census day...

And as you say, it still does not explain what happened to Charles after. He was too young to go abroad...

Thanks for looking. Much appreciated.
