I have searched census and birth records. I found some promising census results but then it was impossible to be sure. Same with the birth indexes. The name is not that common and is mostly confined to Sussex. Thanks for all your help - at least we have sorted Mr Hole.

I was always under the impression that this Registrar's copy was ALL written by one person, that it was the parish register that was signed [or marked] by the parties themselves ???
