This Address and Presentation to a Mr. James O ????
It was found behind an old picture in an old picture frame.
I cannot read the surname and does anybody know who the family are?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What a fantastic find!

Agree with 'Oliver' being a strong possibility - if you use the writing in the word 'Address' as reference, look at the length of the top downwards tail in the 'r' and 'e' and the position of the dots adjacent to each. Short downward tail on 'r', longer on 'e' and and both have adjacent 'dots'. Then consider 'Oliver', tall narrow letter after the O, with no apostrophe before it, squared off 'dot' above the 'i' and upwards tails at top of the 'v' directed left. This seems to match well with the  'l' 'i', 'v', 'e' and 'r' of Oliver.

Will be interesting to see what others make of it.

May not have any connection, but an Oliver family in the area at 1901, albeit with Scottish roots and none of their children carrying the name James:

1911 at 4 Maghon age 61 Farmer and retired policeman.

Hi,

I must say it is a fabulous find and lovely wording of the sentiment behind.  I have seen and signed plenty of leaving work cards to friends and work colleagues in recent years, but the words in this are just so right and really express the best wishes of this man's work colleagues in the Royal Irish Constabulary.  Very moving and apt and I wonder what the tea set they gave him looked like. He could remember them all when having a cup of tea.

I agree that it looks like James Oliver, and this is a surname that is also to be found south of Antrim and Carrickfergus in Dundalk and Co. Louth.  The other names that I see on the bottom are Terence Gibson, Michael McEnteer, Francis Petty, Francis Magee, Robert Wallace and Michael Connell.

Do treasure this.  Really good.
