Haigh Greenwood Studios of Brighouse & Mirfield

I am having problems in trying to identify an old family photo that was taken by Haigh Greenwood of Brighouse and Mirfield. Does anybody have any information on this studio regarding when they were operating.

If you show us the front we can probably date it.
At the moment this looks like 1890's cardstock.

A bit earlier than I thought. Mid - late 1880's.

Thanks Jim, that date rules out some most of my possibilities and so I have to rethink it through again. I was hoping for 1870 but that is obviously too early. Even with that date I have a job to place any of my relations in that area of Yorkshire. Harrogate yes and also Sheffield so I will have to do more work.  Many thanks again Jim

You need to remember these were given to friends as well as family.

Just a side note...I had to phone Ancestry.com tonight and while waiting for the representative I listened to a recording that said some family names are rapidly becoming extinct. Including Greenwood.

So...treasure the photo even if it isn't your own family

I don't know if this will help you but I've been researching my son-in-laws family tree. John Haigh Greenwood was his great great grandfather, he was a commercial photographer. John Haigh Greenwood is listed on the census of 1891 as living and working in Brighouse as a photographer with his wife Kate. However by the census of 1911 he was living with one child in London, although still working as a photographer. I'm not sure if this helps you date the photograph as of course it's possible his wife was still involved with the business and possibly produced the picture.

I say this because although he is not living with her in London he notes that they are still married so perhaps she ran the studio there.
