Bon(n)er family from Drumnykerne, Shankill Parish, County Armagh

Hello all

I am researching this family. In the Ireland wills indexes I found three:

1. William Boner probated 1812
2. John Boner probated 1823
3. Elizabeth Bonner probated 1847

I am aware that these wills were more than likely destroyed, but am now looking at church records. If my research is correct, the Bon(n)er's were not Catholics. A google search is confusing about churches in that area. Can someone point me in the right direction? Any other sources which could give me information on these three persons? Thanks

There’s only 3 people named Boner in Armagh in the 1901 census. All are RC. No Bonner.

None in Griffiths Valuation of Co. Armagh (1864).

For church records you have a choice:

Church of Ireland start in 1681
Wesleyan Methodist 1823
1st Presbyterian 1746
RC 1822.


Copies of the above records are held in PRONI, Belfast. Some (but not all) may be on the Rootsireland site. There don’t appear to be any on that site before 1845, so PRONI is probably your best bet. Their records are not on-line and so a personal visit is required.

 I was searching,in Armagh, for a Mary Bonner (Bonar) who m'd David Mc Dowell in 1835.Turned out   they were in Co Down (Magheralin) I still don't know where Mary was born.

Hello Dan.
  Browsing site and spotted town land of drumnykerne.I know it was posted years ago but I live in drumnykerne on a small farm.On my land is an old ruined house which had an attached garden.Story in my family is that it used to belong to a lady called betty Bonner.The site is locally known as Bonners. I think you might have to go back to early nineteenth century to find Bonners in this house.Walls r still partially standing but no roof.
