In the 1851 census George Grey aged 19 born Oxon 28th Regiment is listed as unmarried-not married.
Actually the image shows he
is married.
Can I just check that there are no typos please?
George Grey/Gray enlisted in 1848, birth approx 1832. So he was 16 on enlistment and married one year later at the age of 17. He was born in Oxfordshire (from 1851 census).
What age is given on the marriage certificate, please? The marriage certificate would confirm age, occupation and his father's name. You really ought to get that if you haven't done so already. It would answer so many questions.
George (soldier in 28th regiment) sent to India – how certain are you of this?
George
jnr (b 1850) is possibly George William Grey/Gray.
You think George William Gray's son (George Donald Gray) married in India in 1869. However, George the son of the soldier would only be 19 in 1869 and any son he might have would not be old enough to marry.
Time for a rethink?
There is a birth registration Sept qtr for a George William Gray in Portsea Island RD.
