Cumberlands
« on: Wednesday 12 March 14 13:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi all ... new here, hope I'm in the right place. I've been looking into my family roots on the Notts/Leics border (Wysall and Kegworth in particular). Thomas Cumberland (1580-1643) is the furthest back so far ... but there is a tantalising reference to a Gabriell Cumberland in the churchwarden presentment of 1597 (he gave 8d for the poor). Can't find any other reference to him, but surely he must be a least related, if not Thomas' father? I have no idea where else I might look - any suggestions welcome!

Thanks for your reply. The information about Thomas is in the Bishops' Transcripts (and his will). Thomas and Elizabeth Watkin are my 9x great grandparents.

Hi Chris - it's Wysall, Notts. I found him by searching google - here's the link I got:

I'm not sure where we go from here! Let me know if you find anything,

Sid

I found that, and discounted it (can't remember why). In fact I think I bought a copy of his will ...

The Nottingham University have responded quite quickly to e mailed queries in the past

mss-library@nottingham.ac.uk   probably worth a try
