Thank you two good films

But it was a bit frightening to hear him say digital images on DVDs inly last about ten years  :o
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

That is a very pessimistic estimate. Testing seems to point at lifespans significantly higher. Certainly long enough for the next "new thing" to have come along.

DVD's and CD's are not a long term way of saving data, but the important bit is that they are making multiple copies because if one fails then there would be a back up.

I went to a talk last year done on archiving Images and we were told that multiple copies stored in different places is best at the moment.
