Many thanks, that is certainly a possibility. Is it Grundon Street or Grudnon Street?
Abbey Park is a nearby area.

Not sure if you are interested in some 'history memories' of the area.

It was built just outside the old city walls to house the people from the out lying villages who were coming into the city to find work, FWK, shoes factories, clothing, it would have been a hive of industry and even in the 1960-80 the factories were there.

This area of Leicester is about 1 mile from the city centre heading north , used to be where the tram station was, the Midland Red bus station( where my grand father worked in the 1930/40s)  the last time I visited the old bus station was sectioned into a shopping centre full of small  shops. The other side of the Melton Road/Belgrave Road was the GNR Rail station originally opened as a freight yard /goods traffic, long gone but I do remember the building being there or part of the building.

All the streets off the Melton Road were rows of back to back terraces which were slums in the 1960s, mostly empty, boarded up shops, the people who had lived there in the main had been moved up to 20 years prior to the new council housing estates on the south side of Leicester, such as Saffron Lane Estate and Eyes Monsell Estate, so the area was like a ghost town when driving through just waiting for demolition.

When the Ugandan dictator kicked out the Asians those derelict houses were the houses that they were housed in, St Martins, St Margaret's, St Mary's and St Leonards ( think there is another one, can't remember) but all Abbey Park area.
Very quickly these people opened up the boarded up shops and it is now the 'Little India' of Leicester and my favourite place to shop when I 'go home'  called the Golden Mile not because of the Asian gold shops but because of the traffic lights every few yards alone the 1 mile and home of the World famous Diwali Festival http://www.rootschat.com/links/0ycp/

Thanks, most interesting.
Ancestry gets a lot more interesting when you look beyond the details on the census forms.
