thank you lizdb for replying. Widow is what I had decided it says too.

Geoff - the image is poor on all sites I have found it scanned on. It is very pale and unclear. Thank you.

Will continue to try to find the death of husband.

thank you again to everyone

Genie :)

Any reason that you are reluctant to reveal the name of the person?  :-\ It often helps to see other words on that and other pages to compare letter formation ...

Berlin Bob has the following rule on Using this Board / Completed Topics ** Board

« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 18:29 BST (UK) »

Using this Board

This board is for help in deciphering hard-to-read writing on certificates,
census images, wills and other old Family History documents.

And it is also for help in finding out where buildings and places are
in old photos and postcards, i.e. help in recognising the location.

If the image you need to be deciphered is subject to copyright, or to terms and conditions from its source which prohibit its reproduction, then you may only post a small portion of it on Rootschat.  Whole pages or documents from such sources will be removed.

do not want to be worried about copyright infringements

Genie, I think you misunderstand.

Nobody asked you to post the entire census or a large portion of it.

Nobody is suggesting that you infringe copyright.

We have simply asked you to tell us the name of the person, and which census this is. We can then look for this person ourselves, then look at the other writing on the same and previous/later pages on our own monitors and compare the way that the letters are formed on many entries. We might then be able to better judge whether the person you are refering to is Married or a Widow.

There have been differences of opinion on what this word is - split 50/50 - so you are no better off than before you started this thread. If you want more informed opinions, it might be valuable to post the details of this particular person.

If you do not wish to do so, well so be it ....  :-\

Geoff asked for details on reply#8 too. I didn't realise you didn't understand.

Genie I think the only way to be sure is to try to find him on other censuses and if you don't find him look for a death...Have you looked on Ancestry to see if there are any matching trees as they may give and indication of when he died.
